REGISTER TO VOTE.  
To vote in an election you must be a registered voter.  You may obtain an absentee ballot for an
upcoming election for one of the following reasons:
1)  is 60 years of age or more
2)  is unable to vote without assistance
3)  expects to be absent from the township for the entire time the polls are open
4)  is in jail awaiting arraignment or trial
5)  has been appointed to work as an inspector in a precinct outside of his or her precinct of
residence
6)  unable to attend the polls due to his or her religious beliefs
Absentee Ballot Applications are available at the Clerk's Office located in the Township Office,
7244 N Genesee Road, Genesee, MI 48437.

The elected officers of a Charter Township consists of the Supervisor, Clerk, Treasurer and four
(4) Trustees.  The term of office for all elected officers is four (4) years and begins on November
20th following the November General Election which is held in presidential years.  In order to
become a candidate for these offices you must be a qualified elector of the township, which is
defined as:
1)  at least 18 years of age
2)  a U.S. citizen
3)  must have lived at least 30 days in the township for which they will serve
4)  be a registered voter
A candidate who wants to have his or her name printed on the primary ballot must file a
nominating petition and an affidavit of identity with the township clerk.  The nominating petition
must be signed by a number of qualified and registered voters of the township.
